The measles vaccine was created in 1963 by a team of doctors, including Dr. Samuel Katz. Although measles cases are down in the U.S., the lack of hospital care and the presence of other diseases like malaria make children in Africa much more susceptible to contracting measles.
In this video, Dr. Katz talks about the dangers of measles and how important it is to vaccinate children. Since 2001, the Measles Initiative has helped to vaccinate more than 500 million children in nearly 70 countries.
