Haroon Mokhtarzada is a technology entrepreneur, originally from Afghanistan and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics in 2001 from the University of Maryland, College Park. Haroon then attended Harvard Law School from 2002-2005 while continuing to bootstrap and grow Freewebs with his brothers on the side. After earning his J.D., Haroon turned down a legal career to become the full-time CEO of Freewebs, and raised $12 million in venture capital funding in 2006. The site was later renamed to Webs.com and today over 50 million people have created websites on the platform.
In his role as CEO, Haroon has also led several additional product launches including the creation of the Social Gaming Network (SGN) for which he raised $15 million dollars and spun out of Webs in 2008. In 2011, Webs was acquired by Vistaprint, a leading provider of marketing products to small and micro businesses globally.
Haroon has a passion for technology startups, innovation, and entrepreneurship. In addition to his new role as VP of Digital Products at Vistaprint, he continues to engage with tech startups as an advisor and angel investor. He is also deeply interested in scalable solutions for large scale problems in the developing world including women’s health, infant mortality, clean water, and energy.
