The Senior Grassroots Officer leads all grassroots efforts on behalf of the Nothing But Nets campaign towards the goal of building a larger constituency of supporters interested in working   to protect families in Africa from malaria.  The Senior Grassroots Officer will develop and manage strategy and execution for the campaign’s grassroots constituency-building, fundraising, and advocacy programs, and will guide several important new initiatives, including “Buzzkill” (a new grassroots platform) and our “Champions Council” (a grassroots leadership group).

Reporting Relationships/Scope

The Senior Grassroots Officer is a new position within the campaign and reports to the Deputy Director of Nothing But Nets.

Responsibilities/Deliverables

• Manage and coordinate the grassroots program for the Nothing But Nets campaign, ensuring that every aspect of this program is built to grow, retain, and mobilize our grassroots base of 150,000 supporters;
• Lead and manage campaign constituency-building activities, including Buzzkill, the campaign’s fun, creative, action-oriented grassroots platform that will launch in March 2013. Our goal is to engage 80,000 new constituents through Buzzkill in year one;
• Oversee strategy and execution of major grassroots fundraising initiatives, including leading and supporting fundraising campaigns online and at events across the country, with the goal of increasing the number of grassroots fundraisers and the amount of money raised;
• Manage the campaign’s grassroots advocacy program with a focus on growing and mobilizing our grassroots advocacy base in key districts/state to take action to encourage Congress to sustain funding for critical malaria programs, including the Global Fund and the President’s Malaria Initiative;
• Lead in the creation and management of a new leaderships group, a select group Nothing But Nets supporters that help lead campaign advocacy, fundraising, and constituency-building initiatives;
• Manage the ongoing creation of new grassroots content to ensure that campaign website and collateral are innovative, fresh, and optimized for building and supporting our grassroots supporter base;
• Develop regular updates for Nothing But Nets grassroots supporters to encourage them to take further action;
• Support the communications and web team in writing emails, blogs, posting photos/stories and supporter profiles as needed;
• Other duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

• College degree required;
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in related field with strong track record of success;
• Experience leading major constituency-building, advocacy, and/or fundraising initiatives;
• Experience in engaging diverse grassroots constituencies, such as youth, university students, civil society groups, or faith-based communities;
• Strong attention to detail, and the ability to execute a program from start to finish;
• Excellent team-player with the ability to build consensus across a different stakeholders;
• Self-starter with strong entrepreneurial spirit;
• Commitment to international issues;
• Ability to travel at least 20%;
• Ability to work under pressure and handle stress;
• Ability to meet regular attendance / tardiness policy.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation.
