The mHealth Alliance champions the use of mobile technologies to improve health throughout the world. Working with diverse partners to integrate mHealth into multiple sectors, the Alliance serves as a convener for the mHealth community to overcome common challenges by sharing tools, knowledge, experience, and lessons learned. The mHealth Alliance advocates for more and better quality research and evaluation to advance the evidence base; seeks to build capacity among health and industry decision-makers, managers, and practitioners; promotes sustainable business models; and supports systems integration by advocating for standardization and interoperability of mHealth platforms. The mHealth Alliance also hosts HUB (Health Unbound), a global online community for resource sharing and collaborative solution generation. Hosted by the United Nations Foundation, and founded by the Rockefeller Foundation, Vodafone Foundation, and UN Foundation, the Alliance now also includes PEPFAR, HP, the GSM Association, and NORAD among its founding partners. Reporting Relationships/Scope
This is a part-time internship with expectations that the intern works 25-30 hours per week. The mHealth Alliance Research Intern reports to, and works directly with the Executive Director and Deputy Director of the mHealth Alliance, with guidance from the Communications team and in overall coordination with the mHealth Alliance team.
Responsibilities/Deliverables
• Conduct research and landscape analyses on topics related to mHealth, mServices, and the use of information and communication technologies for International Development (ICT4D) and global health.
• Conduct appropriate baseline assessments for the mHealth Alliance’s internal monitoring and evaluation framework, and report findings to the Deputy Director and Alliance team.
• Draft articles, blog posts, concept papers, and other appropriate communications materials.
• Support Executive and Deputy Directors in preparation for presentations, teleconferences, and special events.
• Other mHealth Alliance related activities as directed.
Selection Criteria
• Applicants can be a recent graduate or enrolled in a degree-granting program in an undergraduate or graduate school during the internship. Pursuit of, or degree in, public policy, public health, global health and/or international affairs strongly desired.
• Exceptional analytical and written skills in English. Experience with public communications (e.g. writing for a blog or a website) desirable. Familiarity with global health or mHealth a major plus.
• Ability to work to deadlines under pressure and to undertake independent problem-solving.
• Advanced knowledge of and proven experience with Microsoft Office 2010.
• Self-starter and fast learner.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Team player a must.
• Stress tolerance and resilience.
Compensation and Benefits
Intern will be paid at $10 per hour.
