The United Methodist Church has more than 11.5 million members internationally and is in mission in more than 125 countries. It is the second largest Protestant denomination in the U.S., with about 35,000 churches. The denomination has long been a key player in the fight against malaria, having operated hospitals, clinics, schools and mission centers across Africa for more than 160 years. Global health issues are a major focus for The United Methodist Church, which is engaged in a new global health initiative aimed at combating diseases of poverty such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis. |
