United Against Malaria
United Against Malaria is a partnership of soccer stars, non-governmental organizations, foundations, governments, corporation, and grassroots supporters joining forces to combat malaria in the year leading up to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. By leveraging soccer, one of the most popular sports in the world, United Against Malaria is raising global awareness, renewing a worldwide commitment to end malaria, and increasing the use of prevention tools and malaria treatment in Africa. A child dies every 45 seconds from malaria – in the 90 minutes takes to play a soccer match, we can save 180 people from the disease.
The United Nations Foundation is one of nine founding partners of United Against Malaria to help strengthen the existing buzz about malaria prevention while momentum builds for the 2010 World Cup. Through our Nothing But Nets campaign, the UN Foundation will engage our partners and supporters to join the winning team to end malaria.
