At the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), governments pledged to improve the sexual and reproductive health and lives of women and adolescent girls, promises that remain unrealized for millions of women and girls. Moreover, without more urgent global action, the landmark 2000 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related to gender and sexual and reproductive health will also remain unmet.

UNF’s Women and Population Program focuses on advocacy to realize the promise of ICPD and the MDGs for women and adolescent girls, namely to achieve equality, end discrimination and attain full access to comprehensive reproductive and sexual health care services and information. The Women and Population Program’s advocacy includes collaboration with UN Agencies, foundations, civil society organizations, and others, with a particular focus on the following four areas:

Elevating Adolescent Girls on the Global Agenda
Driving U.S. Financial Resource Flows to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights
Promoting Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Sound Information
Supporting Relevant UN Agencies, particularly UNFPA
