At
the 1994 International Conference on Population
and Development (ICPD), governments pledged
to improve the sexual and reproductive health
and lives of women and adolescent girls,
promises that remain unrealized for millions
of women and girls. Moreover, without more
urgent global action, the landmark 2000
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) related
to gender and sexual and reproductive health
will also remain unmet.
UNF’s Women
and Population Program focuses on advocacy
to realize the promise of ICPD and the MDGs
for women and adolescent girls, namely to
achieve equality, end discrimination and
attain full access to comprehensive reproductive
and sexual health care services and information.
The Women and Population Program’s
advocacy includes collaboration with UN
Agencies, foundations, civil society organizations,
and others, with a particular focus on the
