Strengthening Women’s Contributions
to Conflict Prevention and Resolution
Agency Funded: United Nations Development Fund
for Women (UNIFEM)
Amount Funded: $6,600,000 over 36 months
Approved: November 2001
This UNIFEM project seeks
to enhance the role of women in conflict prevention,
resolution and post-conflict peace building, and
to strengthen approaches to the protection and
assistance of women affected by conflict through
a variety of field-based activities. The project’s
initiatives will strengthen the capacity of UNIFEM
to coordinate UN interagency efforts on conflict
prevention and the needs of women in conflict
situations, as well as integrate gender issues
into UN peace operations and peace processes.
The UN Foundation partnership with the UK Government
Department for International Development (DFID)
will greatly expand the capacity of the UNIFEM
Peace and Security Programme to more comprehensively
address the important issues surrounding women
in conflict.
