Empowering
Local Communities to Improve Children’s
Health in Nigeria
Agency Funded: World Health
Organization (WHO)
Amount Funded: $1,050,000 over 24 months
Approved: November 2001
This project aims to reduce
mortality and morbidity among children under five
years of age in Nigeria. The project will work
with parents and other caregivers in the target
communities to improve the key household practices
affecting child health, such as proper nutrition.
Community health providers will also receive training
and support to improve childcare practices at
the household level. In addition, the project
will promote partnerships and intersectoral collaboration
among private/public/UN and community stakeholders
to strengthen community-based child health services.
For example, the project will tap into the World
Health Organization “Roll Back Malaria”
initiative to foster collaboration, efficiency
and effectiveness.
