Measles Control in Africa

Working with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the UN Foundation helped launch supplemental immunization campaigns for measles in Sub-Sahara Africa. Targeting 42 countries in Africa, a total of $60 million has been allocated to provide measles vaccinations to children from 9 months to 15 years of age in Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, and Tanzania. This ongoing project has provided an estimated 115 million children with vaccinations and decreased measles deaths for the region by 35%. Supporting organizations also include the Centers for Disease Control, American Red Cross, Vodafone, Church of the Latter Day Saints, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
