Security Council Resolution Provides Effective Diplomatic Approach

(June 12, 2009) —

Statement by Better World Campaign Executive Director Peter Yeo

“Today’s Security Council resolution on North Korea demonstrates the essential role the United Nations plays in tackling challenges to international security. The Security Council is uniquely positioned to develop the framework and broad-based support necessary to attempt to defuse North Korea’s nuclear ambitions. The UN has provided a forum for an effective diplomatic approach to a nuclear threat. It is now up to the key global and regional powers to fully implement this new set of sanctions against North Korea.”
