A Stronger United Nations

The United Nations Foundation and its sister organization, the Better World Fund, have helped secure U.S. agreement to pay almost $1 billion in UN arrears and rejoin UNESCO. We have supported the UN’s reform processes, leading to the creation of the Democracy Fund, the Peacebuilding Commission, and improved UN management practices. The stories below demonstrate why the world needs the UN more than ever before, and how we are helping to ensure that the UN remains a strong, effective instrument of global peace, prosperity and justice.

STORIES OF IMPACT

  1. The Global Debates

    Area of Involvement: US-UN Relations

In March 2008, high school students in over 80 countries participated in The People Speak’s Global Debates and discussed water rights.  The Debates encourage students to: “Speak up. Change the World.”

  2. Securing another $1 billion for UN Peace & Security missions

    Area of Involvement: US-UN Relations

The path to positive relations between the United States and the UN has not always been a smooth one, and U.S. debt keeps growing, in part from substantial increases in peace and security programs taken on by the UN.

  3. Building a constituency of 50,000 UN activists

    Area of Involvement: US-UN Relations

To increase the impact of advocacy on the Hill, the Better World Campaign strives to build a strong and active constituency for the UN.  Our activists are a critical voice when it comes to improving U.S.-UN relations.
