The UN Foundation’s Climate and Energy program is accelerating progress toward a new energy economy. We have helped create scores of sustainable energy enterprises in developing countries, advance energy efficiency across the globe, and direct millions toward clean energy investments. The Africa Rural Energy Enterprise Development (AREED) provides training and seed money for small businesses in rural Africa to use clean energy technologies. The program has replaced more than 200,000 tons of firewood and has jumpstarted more than 29 businesses.
