Legacy: Sustainable Development
Meeting basic human needs such as food, shelter and employment today shouldn’t compromise the ability of future generations to do the same tomorrow.
Our sustainable development work has helped to conserve the earth’s natural wonders. We have helped local communities develop sustainable livelihoods around the world through community-based enterprises and strategic tourism programs. And we've worked with business partners to promote the supply and demand for biotrade -- sustainable, locally produced goods and services.

WHAT WE’VE ACCOMPLISHED
Educating Travelers
Travelers have an enormous impact on the places they visit. With the right tools and information, they can work with local communities and the tourism industry to protect the treasured places of the world. We have worked hand-in-hand with UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre to encourage responsible travel.
Starting Community-Based Enterprises
Local communities play a critical role in protecting natural and cultural sites near where they live. We developed a small grants program with the UN to provide training, credit, and financing for sustainable ventures in these communities.
Promoting Market Access
We have worked with businesses and industry leaders to provide access and help find distribution networks.
