Statement from UN Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin on the Announcement of the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit

Washington, D.C. —   July 6, 2017

As world leaders prepare to meet in Hamburg, Germany, for the Group of 20 Summit (G20), California Governor Jerry Brown announced the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit for non-state actors. On behalf of the United Nations Foundation, President and CEO Kathy Calvin issued the following statement on today’s announcement:

“The UN Foundation applauds Governor Brown and the state of California for their leadership in meeting the global challenge of climate change and their commitment to fulfilling the Paris Agreement. Effective climate action will require all of us – nations, states, cities, businesses, civil society, and individual citizens – to rise to the challenge with ambition, commitment, and creativity, and the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit will serve to galvanize and support these efforts in the United States and around the world. We look forward to working with the state of California and others on this important event.”
