The United Nations Foundation’s Universal Access Project today announced a press fellowship to the Women Deliver 2019 Conference, the world’s largest conference on gender equality and the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women, this June in Vancouver.

At the conference, selected journalists will have the opportunity to explore the myriad of issues that feed into women’s health and empowerment globally, and will have direct access to experts, global leaders, researchers, advocates, and young people who are driving the charge toward gender equality. Journalists will also attend exclusive briefings with experts, such as those from UN agencies, global policymakers, NGO leaders, and researchers.

“We are at a critical juncture for women’s health and empowerment. From the momentum of the global #MeToo movement, to the record number of women in the U.S. Congress, we have made progress. But this progress needs protection,” said Seema Jalan, Executive Director of the Universal Access Project at the United Nations Foundation. “Millions of women worldwide are still lacking access to modern contraception, are still subjected to gender-based violence, and are still facing discrimination at all levels of society. It’s time for change.”

The conference will draw more than 6,000 attendees, including 1,500 young people, from over 160 countries to explore gender equality and women’s health and empowerment through the lens of power: how it can drive – or hinder – progress and change.

This fellowship is intended for journalists who work for U.S. media outlets and who are interested in gender equality issues, including sexual and reproductive health and rights; international development; U.S. foreign policy; and the work of the United Nations. The fellowship will offer a stipend to cover travel and lodging costs and will take place the week of June 2, 2019.

The application deadline is March 20, 2019. To apply, click here. For more information, please contact Kate D’Amico Schulman (kdamico@unfoundation.org) and Serena Jiwani (sjiwani@unfoundation.org).
