In celebration of Mother’s Day, hundreds of advocates, experts and every day moms and dads will gather at the New York Times Center in New York City on May 5, 2016 to share ideas, exchange best practices and inspire action to create a better future for moms and children around the world.

This is a time of unparalleled humanitarian crises affecting children and their families. More children are in conflict zones and out of school than ever before. Medical complications from pregnancy and childbirth are the second leading cause of death among girls aged between 15-19 worldwide. Every 20 seconds a child dies from a vaccine-preventable disease. Hosted by the United Nations Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, the fourth annual Moms +SocialGood event will convene and harness an unprecedented community of intellect and resources that offer true potential to improve the lives of mothers and children for the better.

Serving as a platform to draw attention to and tackle some of the greatest challenges facing women and children, Moms +SocialGood will leverage the power of social media to connect hundreds of passionate experts, advocates and parents with a global audience. The May 5 kick-off event, which will be broadcast globally via LiveStream, also marks the start of the Global Moms Relay, a digital stage where mothers, leaders and change-makers around the world will join the conversation by sharing their hopes and goals for a better future.

“If you care about healthier families and communities, join us and raise your voice with ours from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day.” said Kathy Calvin, President & CEO, UN Foundation. “Thanks to our partner, Johnson & Johnson, you can learn from UN leaders, be inspired by young activists, and share your own ideas for improving the lives of women and children around the world. Make this year’s Moms +Social Good and Global Moms Relay your moment to take action.”

“As a company with a long-standing commitment to ensuring a healthy society for all, we at Johnson & Johnson have a responsibility to fuel initiatives that are central to improving lives around the world,” said Michael E. Sneed, Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, Johnson & Johnson. “Our goal in partnership with the UN Foundation around Moms +Social Good and the Global Moms Relay this year is to ignite more conversations than ever before about the most urgent issues impacting families today. When you bring together a global community of this caliber, you realize that the potential for positive change and tangible solutions is within our grasp and that’s immensely inspiring.”

Global Moms Relay will begin just before Mother’s Day and run through Father’s Day, from May 4 to June 17. It will feature 25 voices –celebrities, community leaders, experts and everyday moms and dads – who will share a personal story answering the question, “What do you wish were true for every child, everywhere?” and then pass the baton to the next contributor. This one-of-a-kind digital relay encourages audiences to read the inspiring stories and share them with friends on social media networks. For each social media share, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 (per action up to $350,000) to help improve the health and wellbeing of moms and kids worldwide through Nothing But Nets, Shot@Life, Girl Up, Let Girls Learn Peace Corps Fund and U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Through the Donate a Photo mobile app*, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 per photo up to another $200,000 to Nothing But Nets, Girl Up, Let Girls Learn Peace Corps Fund and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

About the Global Moms Relay

The United Nations Foundation and Johnson & Johnson, with support from BabyCenter, Global Citizen, Fatherly and Charity Miles, bring you the Global Moms Relay, showing that small actions can lead to big changes in tackling the world’s most critical challenges for kids. From May 4 to June 17, 2016 (just before Mother’s Day through Father’s Day), 25 celebrities, community leaders, or everyday moms and dads, will share a personal story on what they wish were true for every child, everywhere, and then “pass the baton” to the next contributor. Each time you share one of these posts via social media, Johnson & Johnson will donate $1 (per action up to $350,00) to help improve the health and wellbeing of moms and kids worldwide through Nothing But Nets, Shot@Life, Girl Up, Let Girls Learn Peace Corps Fund and U.S. Fund for UNICEF. * via the Donate A Photo app for iOS and Android. Johnson & Johnson has curated a list of trusted causes, and you can donate a photo to one cause, once a day. Each cause will appear in the app until it reaches its goal, or the donation period ends. If the goal isn’t reached, the cause will still get a minimum donation.
