The United Nations Foundation today announced it will host a press fellowship to provide select journalists with access and exclusive briefings with top experts and global leaders at the Cookstoves Future Summit, taking place November 20-21 in New York City.

“Cooking shouldn’t kill, but it does. Clean cooking affects so many aspects of development, including health, the environment, livelihoods, and gender equality,” said Aaron Sherinian, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations at the UN Foundation. “This fellowship offers the opportunity for journalists to dive deeply into this issue, and explore the tangible solutions that could help billions of people around the world.”

The fellowship will offer exclusive briefings with experts and high-level officials, and is designed to facilitate reporting on the Cookstoves Future Summit, which will bring together public, private, and non-governmental leaders from around the world to spur action towards scaling up clean cooking solutions. The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is organizing this Summit and it will be co-hosted by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State of the United States; Lynne Featherstone MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development, United Kingdom; Børge Brende, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Norway; Hanna Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integrations, Ghana; and Dr. Rajiv Shah, Administrator, U.S. Agency for International Development.

About the United Nations Foundation

The United Nations Foundation, a public charity, was created in 1998 with entrepreneur and philanthropist Ted Turner’s historic $1 billion gift to support UN causes and activities. The UN Foundation builds and implements public/private partnerships to address the world’s most pressing problems, and works to broaden support for the UN through advocacy and public outreach. Through campaigns and partnerships, the organization connects people, ideas, and resources to help the UN solve global problems. The campaigns reduce child mortality, empower women and girls, create a new energy future, secure peace and human rights, and promote technology innovation to improve health outcomes. These solutions are helping the UN advance the eight global targets known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). For more information, visit www.unfoundation.org.

About the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves

The Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves is a public-private partnership hosted by the United Nations Foundation to save lives, improve livelihoods, empower women, and protect the environment by creating a thriving global market for clean and efficient household cooking solutions. The Alliance’s 100 by ‘20 goal calls for 100 million households to adopt clean and efficient cookstoves and fuels by 2020. The Alliance is working with its public, private and non-profit partners to help overcome the market barriers that currently impede the production, deployment, and use of clean cookstoves and fuels in developing countries.
