Today, the Secretary General of the Council of Women World Leaders, Laura Liswood, released a statement on President Park Geun-hye joining the Council:

“The Council of Women World Leaders is pleased to announce the membership of President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea to the Council. President Park has been a steadfast figure in Korean politics since an early age due to her family’s political legacy as well as her own successful career. She has focused her social policy on the eradication of violence against women and children, such as domestic, sexual and school violence. As President, she has spoken out clearly for the need to ensure that women are included as an important driver of growth and well-being of her country.

“After becoming the first female head of state and government of the Republic of Korea, President Park Geun-hye was invited by the chair of the Council, President Tarja Halonen of Finland, to become a member. The Council looks forward to working with President Park on increasing the visibility and presence of women world leaders who wish to follow in her footsteps in both Korea and around the world.”
