Washington, D.C. — April 11, 2013
Emmy award-winning journalist Lynda Lopez, joined Global Mom Relay partners and top mom bloggers at a special premiere event with a signature “10, 9, 8…” countdown to debut two new video announcements on the TOSHIBA VISION screens in Times Square. Yoshi Uchiyama; Johnson & Johnson Vice President of Corporate Citizenship Sharon D’Agostino; and United Nations Foundation Resident Entrepreneur Elizabeth Gore also participated.
The video messages, including one from Global Mom Relay co-chair Jennifer Lopez, will raise awareness and highlight the power of moms, their friends and their families to improve the lives of women and children around the world and will appear on the TOSHIBA VISION screens from April 11 until May 8, 2013.
“It was exciting to see Global Mom Relay videos catching the attention of the crowds coming through Times Square,” said Lynda Lopez, co-chair of the relay and co-founder of the Lopez Family Foundation. “The Global Mom Relay has already generated more than more than $180,000 for women and children’s health, and we’re hoping the messages on the Toshiba screen help raise even more awareness and funds.”
Created by the United Nations Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, BabyCenter, The Huffington Post, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Global Mom Relay is a 60-day series of online conversations about motherhood. This first-of-its-kind “virtual relay,” launched on March 8th, rallies networks of people around the world to join the relay by commenting, sharing stories, making donations and taking action.
“A mother’s love has no limits, but love alone cannot keep her children safe and healthy,” said Sharon D’Agostino. “The momentum of the Global Mom Relay is building, as more and more people realize they can help by simply sharing a blog.”
“The middle of New York City will now host an important message that the world’s citizens are building a movement of moms helping moms to let their children thrive,” said Elizabeth Gore. “Together, we can give more families the chance to lead healthy and happy lives.”

About the Global Mom Relay
The Global Mom Relay is a groundbreaking series of online conversations to share advice, stories and inspiration about motherhood. Led by co-chairs Arianna Huffington, Jennifer Lopez, Lynda Lopez, Elizabeth Gore, and Sharon D'Agostino, this virtual relay connects moms everywhere through the power of social media in support of the United Nation's Every Woman Every Child movement to help women and children lead healthy lives.
As part of this relay, mothers around the world are mobilizing their voices and their social networks to raise the visibility of the stark statistics on women’s and children’s health: nearly 7 million children around the world will die from preventable diseases this year and every two minutes, a woman dies from complications related to pregnancy.
Each time someone shares a Global Mom Relay piece on Facebook, Twitter, or Email, or donates $5 or more, a $5 donation (up to $62,500 per week) will be donated by Johnson & Johnson and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to one of four initiatives that are helping women and children lead healthy and happy lives – Girl Up, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action (MAMA), and the Shot@Life campaign.
