United Nations Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin Hails U.S. Progress on Climate Emissions
Washington, D.C. — September 26, 2013
The following statement was issued by UN Foundation President and CEO Kathy Calvin:
“There is good news in the 2014 U.S. Climate Action Report released today: U.S. climate emissions have fallen to their lowest level in 15 years. The Obama administration has led by increasing fuel economy standards, promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency, and accelerating the shift from coal to gas in power generation.
“These steps are having a real impact.
“New power plant standards and the agreement to cut methane and hydrofluorocarbon emissions will drive even more progress. The UN IPCC's report tomorrow on climate science is anticipated to show stronger scientific certainty that climate change is real and largely the result of human activity. Through efficiency improvements and investments in clean energy, we have made significant progress toward protecting the air, land, and water we rely on - but we must do more.”
