Global Problems Can be Solved

Talk Radio Day, Live From the United Nations

Groundbreaking partnership with Talkers Magazine brings the UN to a nationwide radio audience for a 5th consecutive year

New York, NY —   June 4, 2010

The United Nations Foundation and Talkers Magazine today launched the fifth annual “Talk Radio Day at the UN.”  20 talk radio hosts from across the United States will be airing their shows from the United Nations’ Headquarters in New York. The hosts will be interviewing UN Ambassadors and officials from the UN and its agencies to offer listeners first-hand accounts about the valuable work of the United Nations.  “Whether it is fighting poverty and improving the living conditions of people around the globe, securing peace in its 16 Peacekeeping Missions, or delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance after natural disasters such as in Haiti, the UN is there, every day,” said Timothy E. Wirth, President of the United Nations Foundation. “We are pleased to celebrate the 5th anniversary of this event with such a strong line up of hosts and UN guests that will take the extraordinary work of the people of the UN directly to the American public.”

“Millions of listeners will hear, and watch via the web, the voices of the UN describing their work around the globe,” said Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers Magazine. “Talk radio, and its dedicated community of listeners, will have a unique opportunity to get inside and talk to the men and women who are the UN.”

The talk radio hosts will be on the air live from the United Nations today from 5:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., offering millions of Americans the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day operations of the international organization. They will discuss topics ranging from the massive humanitarian relief effort following the January earthquake in Haiti to the UN’s multi-faceted approach to peacekeeping missions around the globe. Several UN guests will focus on the UN’s role in efforts to combat poverty and improve the health and living standards for millions around the world through the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Among the talk radio hosts participating are: Gary Baumgarten, Paltalk.com; Rabbi Shmuley Boteach, WABC, NY; Dr. Joy Browne, WOR Radio Network; Alan Colmes, Fox News Radio; Jon Elliott; Thom Hartmann, KPOJ/Dial Global; Dr. Renée Kohanski, PodJockey; Michael Levin, Progressive Blend Radio; Errol Lewis, WWRL, NY; Stephanie Miller, Dial Global; Bob Ney, WVLY, WV; Dan Patterson, ABC News Radio; George Russell, WSMN, Nashua, NH; Curtis Sliwa, WNYM, NY; Doug Stephan, Stephan Multimedia; Talk Radio News Service; Kirk Tanter for Warren Ballentine and Al Sharpton, Radio One; Larry Young, WOLB, Baltimore, MD, and hosts from RTTNews, in addition to Mark Leon Goldberg from Bloggingheads.tv.
