Global Problems Can be Solved

On the conclusion of climate and energy discussions at the G8 and Major Economies Forum in L'Aquila, Italy

Statement by Reid Detchon, Vice President, Climate and Energy

July 9, 2009

"The real issue now is that public policy is not keeping up with what the science is telling us we must do. Without immediate action, the world will go past the two-degree milepost at very high speed, and the consequences will be severe.

“Stronger national commitments are needed to increase the use of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies, to deter harmful land use, and to respond to the climate impacts that are already being felt throughout the world. These are steps that make sense in their own right for countries' own economic and security interests. There is no good reason for delay."
