Oscar Goes Green
TPS supporters across the country host parties in support of Inconvenient Truth
Washingto, DC — February 23, 2007
The People Speak (TPS) announced today that hundreds of its supporters are recreating the glitz and glamour of Hollywood while also supporting environmental causes by hosting a Green Oscar party.
“In support of Vice President Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” an Oscar nominee for Best Documentary, we’re having Green Oscar Parties all over the country,” said Victoria Baxter, Executive Director of The People Speak. “Our supporters are hosting a Green Oscar party during the awards show as a creative way to entertain friends and family while raising awareness about current environmental issues.”
Three easy steps can turn a typical Oscar gathering into a Green Oscar party:
· Set a Green Scene: Replace old light bulbs with compact fluorescents and encourage guests to carpool or take public transportation to the party;
· Eat and Entertain Green: Serve organic or local food and use recyclable products;
· Green the Theme: Ask guests to support the cause by wearing green!
In the D.C. area, students at George Washington University will be hosting a green party for over 30 guests, including speakers from Green GW. "I hope this event continues to promote environmental activism and the sustainability of the movement here on campus, as well as in D.C.," said Leah Ratner, member of Green GW.
Party hosts across the U.S. will submit photos, blogs, and podcasts of their Green Oscar Parties to www.ThePeopleSpeak.org. The five best entries will be selected and voted upon, with the winner taking home the first ever TPS Green Oscar Award. The winner will receive the award and the opportunity to give a 45 second thank-you speech, which will be posted on the TPS website.
