More than a dozen talk radio show hosts – from both regional and nationally syndicated shows – broadcast live today from the United Nations in New York during the second annual “Talk Radio Day at the UN.” The talk radio hosts interviewed United Nations officials from around the world including the Deputy Secretary General Asha Rose Migiro. Ambassadors Sir Emyr Jones Parry from the United Kingdom and Thomas Matussek from Germany, Deputy Ambassador Henri-Paul Normandin from Canada, and former U.S. Ambassador William Luers, current president of the United Nations Association of the USA, were also interviewed.

“Today, voices from around the country have joined with representatives from around the world,” said Kathy Bushkin Calvin, Chief Operating Officer of the United Nations Foundation. “We hope the end result will be a better understanding of the United Nations and its role in our society.”

Among the hosts expected today are the Reverend Al Sharpton of the Al Sharpton Show, Lionel of Air America Radio, Alan Stock and Kerri Kasem of KXNT in Las Vegas, and Alan Colmes of Fox Radio News.

Talk Radio Day 2007 is an initiative of the United Nations Foundation, Talkers magazine, Talk Radio News Service and the United Nations Department of Public Information.

The talk radio hosts began broadcasting live at 5:00 am and will continue throughout the day until 8:00 pm. UN Dispatch, a UN-related blog, is also posting live throughout the day on www.undispatch.org.
