Global Problems Can be Solved

U.S. Radio Talk Show Hosts Broadcast Live from the UN

New York —   June 6, 2006

The United Nations Foundation has partnered with Talkers Magazine and Talk Radio News Service to present “Talk Radio Day at the UN” on Thursday, June 8, 2006. For the first time ever, 11 American radio show hosts from across the country will be airing their shows, both local and nationally syndicated, live from the UN headquarters in New York. The hosts will be interviewing officials from UN headquarters and from around the world to offer listeners first-hand accounts about the valuable work of the United Nations.

Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers Magazine states, “The opportunity to broadcast from inside the United Nations Headquarters and gain insight about numerous international issues largely ignored by the domestic media will provide a valuable, groundbreaking service to the American listening public.”

“This is part of an ongoing effort by the UN Foundation and the United Nations to help the American public better understand the workings of the international organization bringing the important work of the UN into American communities,” said Kathy Bushkin, Executive Vice-President of the United Nations Foundation. “We are excited to be a part of this innovative partnership that will focus not only on the role of the UN in global stories already receiving attention, but also the lesser-known stories about the life-saving work the UN performs everyday.”

The talk radio hosts will be on the air live from the United Nations from 8 am until 9 pm, offering millions of Americans the opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day operations of the international organization. They will discuss topics ranging from combating measles, to peacekeeping missions in Africa.

The 11 talk radio hosts participating in the conference are: Marc Bernier of “The Marc Bernier show” on WNDB, Daytona Beach and WFHG-AM-FM, Bristol, VA; Blanquita Cullum of the nationally syndicated “Radio America” program; Jerry Doyle of the Talk Radio Network’s “The Jerry Doyle Show;” Ellis Henican & Lynn White of “Henican and White,” WOR, New York; Karen Hunter of WWRL, New York; Lars Larson of KXL, Portland and Westwood One; Jack Rice of WCCO, Minneapolis; Doug Stephan of nationally syndicated “Good Day” show; and Alan Stock & Heidi Harris of KXNT, Las Vegas.
