The World Food Programme ICT Team reports from the bombings in Algeria
In December 2007, two bombs ripped through the Algerian capital, Algiers, killing over 50 people, damaging government and UN offices, and destroying local communications networks. Within 48 hours of the explosions, WFP’s IT Emergency Managers were on the scene to reconnect aid workers and others using a satellite-based communications system. Mark Phillips of the World food Programme describes his arrival on the scene.
