UN
Foundation President Timothy E. Wirth Issues Statement
on
Resolution Condemning Deniers of Holocaust
Washington,
D.C. – United Nations Foundation (UN Foundation)
President Timothy E. Wirth issued the following
statement on the draft United Nations General
Assembly resolution condemning deniers of the
Holocaust:
“The United Nations Foundation welcomes
the international effort to reaffirm the tragedy
of the Holocaust. Neither the horror of the Holocaust
nor the shining example set for international
cooperation in response to it should ever be forgotten.
It is appropriate and timely that this resolution
is being considered just as the UN and the world
prepares for the second annual International Day
of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the
Holocaust. As the United Nations was formed out
of the ashes of the Holocaust, this resolution
and the International Day of Holocaust Remembrance
are important reminders of the mission of the
UN as declared in its Charter to ‘save succeeding
generations from the scourge of war.’”
“The UN Foundation hopes that all nations
will come together in support of this resolution
and confront all efforts to mischaracterize or
deny the incontrovertible evidence of this atrocious
event in history.”
