Climate & Energy
Energy is essential to economic development. Energy provides mobility, heat and light, and fuels the machinery that drives the global economy. But the world's dependence on coal and oil harms public health and the environment, causing air pollution and climate change. Our Climate & Energy Team works with the UN to help move the world toward a safer, cleaner, more equitable and climate-friendly energy future.
Our climate & energy priorities include:
Tackling the Global Climate Challenge
The United Nations climate change negotiations are the leading global forum for countries to work together on the world’s most challenging environmental threat. We are working with the Secretary-General and his climate team, as well as government, business, and non-profit leaders, to encourage immediate action to reduce emissions and deploy clean energy technologies.
Improving Energy Efficiency
Energy efficiency is the cheapest, fastest, and smartest strategy available for saving money and resources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions around the world. The UN Foundation is building support among UN, government and business leaders for a strategy to double the annual rate of global energy efficiency improvement.
Providing Modern Energy for All
While most of us enjoy the benefits of readily accessible energy, approximately two billion people around the world do not have access to clean, modern energy services -- preventing them from developing a modern economy and causing disruptions to the climate system. We're working to advance renewable energy solutions through our International Bioenergy and Sustainability Initiative.
