Once a year, a singular convening gathers UN and world leaders with global heads of business, innovators, and change makers. The annual United Nations Foundation Global Leadership Dinner and Dialogue are the global community’s top annual events, offering an exclusive perspective on the UN’s work, priorities, and partnerships, while delivering participants the chance to engage with those making significant impact.
At this year’s dinner, taking place on October 19 in New York, the UN Foundation will recognize five honorees who are working alongside the UN to tackle some of the most urgent challenges of our time through the Global Leadership Awards.
For 55 years, the Global Leadership Dinner has brought together policymakers, diplomats, UN supporters, and business leaders to call attention to some of the world’s most pressing humanitarian crises, and recognize the vital role the UN can play in advancing peace, prosperity, and justice. Together, we honor individuals and corporations for their global leadership in advancing UN causes.
At the 1998 dinner, Ted Turner received the inaugural Champion for Global Change Award in recognition of his longstanding commitment to UNA-USA and the UN. During his acceptance speech, he announced his historic $1 billion pledge, resulting in the founding of the UN Foundation. Today, UNA-USA and the UN Foundation work hand-in-hand to connect the people, ideas, and resources that further the UN's lifesaving work around the world.
