Park Geun-hye: President, Republic of Korea, 2013 - 2017
Park Geun-hye served as the eighteenth President of the Republic of South Korea. She was the first woman to hold that position. The daughter of a former president, she entered politics early in her life to act as first lady after the assassination of her mother. She entered politics on her own terms in 1998 as an assemblywoman for The Grand National Party (GNP) now known as the Saenuri party.
The Geun-hye administration was focused on co-prosperity which shifted focus from the traditional Nation focused system to focus more on the individual. The administration also hoped to improve relations with the north with the eventual goal of reunification. In 2013 and 2014, she was voted eleventh most powerful women in the world by Forbes and fifity-second on the overall powerful persons list. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering. She was removed from the presidential office in March 2017.
