Michelle Bachelet: President, Chile 2006-2010, 2014-2018
Michelle Bachelet was the first woman to hold the prestigious office of President in Chile. Bachelet was elected President of Chile in 2006, a position she held until 2010. She then took a break from the Presidency and served as the Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women. In March 2014, she began her second term as President, a position she currently holds. TIME magazine ranked President Bachelet as the world's 15th most influential person in 2008. Bachelet is truly a modern renaissance woman - she is a surgeon, pediatrician, and epidemiologist, with experience in both the defense field and politics.
