Small steps, huge impact
February 7, 2013 BY Gene Gurkoff
Charity Miles, a free smartphone app that enables people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike, is partnering with the UN Foundation to launch the #VDay10k, to raise $10k for charity. We don’t want people to open their wallets, just tie up their sneakers and Charity Miles will donate 25 cents for every mile walked or run, and 10 cents for every mile biked to a featured charity, chosen by the user.
We launched Charity Miles last June with the belief that a few committed people, by working together, can change the world. Since then, more than 55,000 people have covered more than 600,000 miles to earn more than $130,000 for our charity partners, all courtesy of Charity Miles and our corporate sponsors. We are inspired every day by their enthusiasm, commitment and stories.
Today is an especially big day for us—because today we join forces with you. We couldn’t be more excited, or honored. The first UN Foundation campaign that we’ll feature is Shot@Life, through which anyone can fully immunize a child against polio for only $1 — that equals walking or running just four miles! Later in the month, we’ll add options to support Nothing But Nets and Girl Up as well.
So, as soon as you finish reading this, please pick up your phone, download the Charity Miles app, and get moving! Your small steps can lead to huge impact.
