Aisha Cooper Bruce

Mrs. Aisha Cooper Bruce, Director of Social Development, Helping Our People Excel (H.O.P.E.), Inc, has over 15 years experience working on youth and leadership development issues, with specialized training in, Youth and Leadership Development, Sexual Reproductive Health issues, Advocacy, Lobbying, Peace-Building, and Behavior Change Communication. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Family Studies from the University of Maryland-College Park (USA), focusing on positive youth development approaches. She has worked as a consultant for several NGOs, CBOs and government-line ministries, including the Forum for Youth Investment (USA), World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. She has spoken nationally and internationally on youth development issues, more specifically at:

  • the National Commission on Disarmament, Demobilization, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration in Liberia
  • the United Nations Special Committee on Racism and Reconciliation at the UN Headquarters in New York

She is currently an AGALI fellow and the Liberia Country Coordinator of the AGALI (Adolescent Girls Advocacy and Leadership Initiative) program. She also serves as the Youth Minister at The Empowerment Temple AME Church, Business Manager of Terravilla Botanical Gardens, Inc, and as a member of several business, school and community boards.

Girls face many issues when it comes to their sexual reproductive health and rights, including social isolation, lack of education, traditional practices, economic disparities, violence and issues of confidentiality and stigmatization.
