The International Bioenergy Initiative
was launched by the United Nations
Foundation (UN Foundation) in 2005.
This Initiative integrates in-country
resources and international markets
to create economic opportunities for
rural communities and developing nations.
It identifies the nexus of sustainable
energy and development - providing
innovative, effective strategies to
increase rural incomes, improve energy
access, and reduce greenhouse gas
emissions. Access to clean affordable
energy for all is vital to the achievement
of the United Nation’s Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) of poverty
reduction and sustainable development.
To achieve these objectives, the IBI
focuses on four priorities:
