David Harwood

David Harwood oversees public policy and communication activities at the United Nations Foundation and its sister organization, the Better World Fund. He was among the UN Foundation’s first employees, helping to establish the organization and its initial priorities, cooperation with the UN and staff. 

Mr. Harwood has previously been a partner at Good Works Group, a Colorado-based professional services firm providing communications and policy consulting to non-profit organizations. From 1993 to 1997, he was senior advisor and chief of staff to the Undersecretary of State for Global Affairs, helping to coordinate U.S. diplomatic efforts on emerging global issues, including: human rights, democracy and labor; population and refugees; environment and science; narcotics and crime.

Mr. Harwood helped coordinate U.S. preparations for the International Conference on Population and Development, climate change and other global environmental negotiations.  From 1988 to 2002, he served as legislative assistant and principal speechwriter for U.S. Senator Timothy E. Wirth, where he coordinated legislative efforts on climate change and other international environmental issues, as well as domestic renewable and energy efficiency initiatives.
